ℹ️ About JSON Schema Generator

JSON Schema Generator turns a valid JSON example into a draft-07 JSON Schema that can document and validate the shape of API payloads, configuration files, webhooks, and test fixtures. JSON Schema describes the allowed structure of a JSON instance with keywords such as type, properties, required, items, format, and additionalProperties.

This tool emits $schema: "http://json-schema.org/draft-07/schema#". Draft-07 is documented by the JSON Schema Draft-07 specification index and the JSON Schema Validation vocabulary. The input itself must be valid JSON as defined by RFC 8259.

Practical uses:

  • Create a starting schema for REST API request and response contracts.
  • Document webhook payloads, event messages, and configuration files.
  • Produce validator input for build checks, CI tests, and form validation.
  • Generate structured examples for OpenAPI components and developer documentation.
  • Share a machine-readable contract between frontend, backend, and QA teams.

What the generator infers:

  • JSON value types: object, array, string, integer, number, boolean, and null.
  • Object properties, nested object schemas, array items, and oneOf for arrays that contain mixed sample types.
  • required properties from non-null sample values, or every property when "Mark all properties as required" is enabled.
  • additionalProperties based on the option panel, defaulting to a closed object contract.
  • Example values, minLength for non-empty strings, simple phone-number patterns, integer detection, and basic numeric bounds for observed values from 0 to 100.
  • Common string formats when detection is enabled: email, date-time, uri, uuid, ipv4, and ipv6.

Example: a sample object like {"id": 123, "email": "[email protected]", "active": true} becomes an object schema with typed id, email, and active properties, an email format annotation, additionalProperties set from your option, and a required array for fields present in the sample.

Limitations:

  • A schema inferred from one sample is a draft contract, not proof of every valid production value.
  • Optional fields, nullable variants, enums, exact string lengths, business rules, and full numeric ranges often need manual review.
  • Draft-07 features such as $ref, definitions, if/then/else, allOf, and complex patternProperties are not inferred automatically.
  • Array item schemas are based on sampled elements, so large or highly variable arrays may need extra tightening before use in production validators.

Use the generated schema as a strong first pass, then adjust it to match the real contract your validator, API gateway, or OpenAPI document expects.
