.--...-.-.... --- ....----..--------/ℹ️ About Morse Code Encoder/Decoder
Morse Code represents text as short and long signal elements, commonly written as dots and dashes. This converter translates plain text to International Morse Code and decodes dot-dash groups back to readable text for radio practice, signal analysis, puzzles, and documentation.
The modern international alphabet is standardized by ITU-R M.1677-1. It is still used by radio operators as continuous wave (CW) telegraphy, including amateur radio operations governed in the United States by 47 CFR Part 97.
Timing and separators:
- Dot: one signal unit, written as
.or·. - Dash: three signal units, written as
-. - Element gap: one unit between dots and dashes inside one character.
- Character gap: three units; this tool writes it as a space between Morse groups.
- Word gap: seven units; this tool writes it as
/between words.
Examples:
SOSconverts to... --- ....HELLO WORLDconverts to.... . .-.. .-.. --- / .-- --- .-. .-.. -...ONLINE CYBER TOOLSis useful test text because it includes multiple words and repeated letters.
Common applications:
- Encoding short practice messages for CW and amateur radio training.
- Decoding received dot-dash text from logs, puzzles, beacon notes, or training material.
- Checking spacing between letters and words before copying Morse into another system.
- Teaching how timing units map to written Morse symbols.
Supported characters: A-Z, 0-9, and common International Morse punctuation such as period, comma, question mark, apostrophe, slash, parentheses, colon, semicolon, equals, plus, hyphen, quotation mark, dollar sign, and at sign.
Limitations: Morse Code is an encoding, not encryption. It does not hide the message from anyone who can read Morse. This tool focuses on International Morse Code text conversion; it does not fully model American Morse, operator prosigns, accented letters, exact audio tone timing, Farnsworth spacing, or radio licensing requirements.
