42 (characters: 52 50)4242.0004.200e1forty-twoXLIIℹ️ About String ⇄ Number Converter
String ⇄ Number Conversion translates between text, Unicode code points, integers, decimals, scientific notation, English number words, and Roman numerals. Use it as a text to number converter, number to words converter, Unicode code point converter, scientific notation converter, or quick Roman numeral helper when data needs to move between human-readable and machine-readable forms.
Text input is read as Unicode characters and converted to code points, so ABC
becomes 65 66 67. Numeric input accepts whitespace, comma, or newline separated
values, so 42, 255, 1024 can be converted to text, number words, Roman numerals, or
exponential notation. The implementation follows the Unicode code point model described by the
Unicode Standard
and the ECMAScript numeric behavior defined for the
Number type.
Supported conversion modes:
- String/Text: convert characters to Unicode scalar values and back with
String.fromCodePoint()behavior. - Integer: parse signed whole numbers and truncate decimal input when integer output is selected.
- Float/Decimal: format numeric values to three decimal places for normalized spreadsheet or log output.
- Scientific Notation: convert values such as
1.23e4or-5.67e-3with exponential output. - Number Words: parse common English tokens such as
one, twenty, hundred, andmillion. - Roman Numerals: convert additive and subtractive notation using
I,V,X,L,C,D, andM.
Examples:
Helloas string to integer returns the Unicode code points72 101 108 108 111.255as integer to scientific notation returns2.550e+2.five ten twenty fiftyas number words to Roman numerals returnsV X XX L.XLIIas Roman numerals to integer returns42.
Common use cases:
- Debug character encoding by converting text to decimal Unicode code points.
- Normalize imported CSV or log values into integers, fixed decimals, or scientific notation.
- Generate readable number words for fixtures, labels, documents, and teaching material.
- Convert Roman numeral examples for dates, outlines, clocks, and legacy catalog data.
- Check how a numeric token will be interpreted before sending it to an API or database.
Limits and parsing notes: JavaScript numbers are IEEE 754 double-precision
values, so integers larger than Number.MAX_SAFE_INTEGER may lose precision. Floats
and scientific notation are rounded for display, integer output truncates fractional values, and
invalid Unicode code points render as the replacement character. Roman numeral output is limited
to the conventional range 1-3999; unsupported values are shown in parentheses. The separate Roman
numeral reference page is useful for deeper rules, while
Britannica's Roman numeral overview
and the
Unicode Number Forms chart
give useful historical and character-set context.
