ℹ️ About Anagram Generator
Anagram Generator finds real words that are anagrams of your input — words built from
exactly the same letters in a different order. Type listen and it returns
silent, enlist, inlets, and tinsel.
How it works: every word in the dictionary is indexed by its letters sorted into
alphabetical order — its "anagram signature". listen, silent, and
tinsel all share the signature eilnst, so they sit under the same index key.
To find anagrams the tool strips your input to letters, sorts them into that signature, and returns
every dictionary word stored at that key. It is a single, instant index read that runs entirely in
your browser.
Two dictionaries:
- Common (~74k words) — everyday English, the default. Results are words most people recognise.
- Comprehensive (~173k words) — the full ENABLE tournament word list, including rare and obscure valid words. Loaded on demand the first time you select it.
The comprehensive list is a superset of the common list, so it always returns the common results plus more.
Practical examples:
listen→enlist,inlets,silent,tinsel.earth→hater,heart.stressed→desserts.
Options:
- Dictionary switches between the common and comprehensive word lists.
- Max Results caps how many anagrams are shown for inputs with many matches.
- Include Original shows the word you typed in the results when it is itself a dictionary word (off by default).
- Sorting orders results alphabetically and includes character-frequency statistics.
Note: only exact anagrams are returned — every result uses all of your letters. Inputs whose letters do not spell any dictionary word return no results, and coverage depends on the selected word list.
Privacy: the dictionary loads into your browser and every lookup happens locally — your input is never sent to a server. A matching API endpoint is available below for programmatic use.
